NYT: SHAUN DONOVAN HAS RELEASED THE “MOST DETAILED” EDUCATION POLICY PLAN IN THE NYC MAYORAL RACE
Following a thorough examination of NYC Mayoral Candidates’ education policy proposals, the New York Times has called Shaun Donovan’s plan to repair, rebuild, and reimagine NYC public schools the “most detailed” among the field.
Shaun’s education plan aims to repair the systemic damage from COVID-19, tackle pre-existing inequities, and apply a system-wide focus on diversity, integration, and inclusion for all students and educators, in addition to other top priorities.
NEW YORK, NY — Following a thorough examination of education policy proposals put forward by a number of mayoral candidates in the crowded Democratic primary field, the New York Times noted that NYC Mayoral Candidate Shaun Donovan has put forth the “most detailed” educated policy plan to date compared to the other mayoral hopefuls.
Donovan’s education platform, A Million Strong: Repairing, Rebuilding, and Reimagining New York City Public Schools for ALL our Kids, is a nearly 10,000 word, in-depth plan that provides innovative solutions and bold ideas to create equitable public schools in the largest public school education system in the nation. The platform adds to Donovan’s recently unveiled repertoire of bold policy ideas that have been recognized by national and local experts in various fields.
“Throughout my long career in public service, I have learned that the devil is in the details. Platitudes and broad generalizations about education reform will not address the deep rooted injustices within our public school system. Our city’s children deserve clear, concrete, and actionable agendas if we are going to give them the education they all deserve,” said NYC Mayoral Candidate Shaun Donovan. “Moreover, if our education system is going to recover from this pandemic and tackle long-standing inequities that have existed prior and continue to this day, we must repair, rebuild, and reimagine our educational system to create real pathways to economic opportunity for every student. My heavily detailed plan is the only education policy proposal with enough substance and bold ideas to get the job done and prepare the next generation of New Yorkers for a bright and successful future.”

“Shaun Donovan, the former secretary of housing and urban development in the Obama administration, has released the most detailed education policy plan so far, saying he would eliminate most academic prerequisites for middle school admissions and add weighted lotteries to further integrate those schools.”
