SHAUN DONOVAN SURPASSES $2.6 MILLION IN CONTRIBUTIONS RAISED AND EXPECTED MATCHING FUNDS FOR MAYORAL CAMPAIGN OF IDEAS

Former Obama-Biden Administration Housing Secretary and Budget Director will report over $950,000 raised in the most recent filing period, with an additional $1 million in expected public matching funds.

Campaign receives contributions from a wide range of New Yorkers that include small business owners, prominent tech entrepreneurs and business leaders, philanthropists, faith leaders, local advocates, restaurateurs and national leaders.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, New Yorkers for Donovan announced that the campaign has now raised over $2.6 million in contributions and expected matching funds during the course of his campaign after raising a remarkable $954,000 in the most recent filing period. This is the highest amount raised in a single filing period among all of the candidates participating in the matching funds program.

“I am humbled and proud of the diverse network we are building across the city, state and country who believe in my vision to repair, rebuild and reimagine a City that works for everyone,” said NYC Mayoral Candidate Shaun Donovan. “We have received contributions from New Yorkers of all walks of life – many small business owners, clergy, former colleagues in the Obama Administration and nominees from President-Elect Biden’s cabinet, creating a progressive coalition hungry for a Mayor with a bold vision and proven expertise in crisis and recovery to lead New York City.”

Contributions came from across New York City, reflecting growing support for Donovan’s candidacy. Support for the campaign also came from local and national leaders who share Donovan’s vision for New York, including members of the Obama-Biden alumni network and many of whom have been tapped for Cabinet posts in the incoming Biden-Harris Administration as well as a group of faith-based leaders representing boroughs across New York City.

“In his first financial filing period of the campaign, Shaun outraised the entire field combined. We expanded our efforts with this filing and are proud to announce that we’ve raised over $1.6 million to date, and recently built a robust digital fundraising operation that has surged on the strength of Shaun’s campaign of ideas,” said New Yorkers for Donovan Finance Director Ioanna Niejelow. “New Yorkers are beginning to focus on this race in a big way and what we’re hearing, and what’s reflected by this filing is that New Yorkers are hungry for a public servant, not a politician. Shaun has dedicated his entire career to serving the most vulnerable communities and is the most qualified to get us out of crisis, into a sound recovery and reimagine a City that works for everyone.”

The campaign is building the broadest coalition of support and the financial filing will reflect that. Among the notable contributors were former Obama Administration Cabinet members, numerous senior officials, and former mayors from across the country. In addition, Team Kujichagulia, a citywide group made up of faith-based leaders have coalesced behind Donovan to drum-up local support for the campaign.
