SHAUN DONOVAN DEFENDS TEACHERS, SLAMS YANG & CRITICS FOR FURTHER POLITICIZING SCHOOL REOPENINGS
NEW YORK, NY — Today, New York City Mayoral Candidate Shaun Donovan came to the defense of New York City educators in response to misguided comments made by fellow candidate Andrew Yang regarding the United Federation of Teachers and the reopening of city schools. Donovan also took aim at Yang’s critics, who he believes are seizing upon this moment to score political points.
“The fundamental misunderstanding here by both Andrew Yang and many of those criticizing him is that this isn’t about the politics of blame. It’s not about politics at all — it’s about getting our kids back to school in a way that is safe for both them and their teachers,” said NYC Mayoral Candidate Shaun Donovan.” Our city’s educators have had to do the impossible, oftentimes at risk to their own health, and blaming them because our city did not properly manage this pandemic will not get our schools opened any faster. Nor will taking cheap political potshots. To move forward and get out of this crisis, we need solutions that include our teachers, not blame them.”
